Background
In today's society, many women find themselves obsessively engaging in
extreme diets due to high societal expectations of success and appearance.
While understanding of mental health issues has improved,
awareness of eating disorders remains insufficient.
Recognizing this issue, the Mindfull project was initiated to develop
an app that enhances awareness, provides education, and supports
recovery through a user-centered approach.

Around 9% of people worldwide will experience
an eating disorder at some point in their lives.
Research Summary
Eating disorders are recognized as a significant
health issue due to high mortality rates, with women
being more than twice as affected as men.
This disparity in prevalence between genders has guided
the Mindfull service to primarily target female users,
addressing the specific needs and challenges they face.
Data analysis underscores the intricate relationship
between eating disorders and mental health,
highlighting that eating disorders are not merely
about food consumption but are deeply intertwined
with psychological issues.

Onboarding
The onboarding pages guide users through
the app's essential features, starting with a warm introduction to its supportive and compassionate approach to overcoming eating disorders.
Daily Mood Check-in
The daily mood check-in invites users to reflect
on their current emotions by selecting one of
five mood emojis.
After checking in, users can view their weekly mood flow on a graph, which helps them track their emotional patterns and progress.
If a user selects a negative mood, such as "Awful,"
a warm and supportive notification appears.
This notification offers options to address their feelings later or immediately start journaling, guiding them to the next step with care.

Mindfull allows users to log and track their exercise easily. Users can search for exercises or select from quick tags such as walking, running, yoga, etc.
The app offers guidance tailored to individuals with eating disorders. We support users in maintaining a healthy relationship with exercise, emphasizing moderation and self-awareness.
JOURNAL

The "Journal" is the key feature of Mindfull, designed to support those suffering from eating disorders by providing a structured and reflective space to document their thoughts and feelings.

for better self-awareness and management.
TODAY’S SESSION
(goals)
"Today's Session" offers users fresh daily content
to support their mental and physical well-being.

YOUR RECOVERY COMPANION FOR
A HEALTHIER YOU
“I wish I had a tool to stop my impulses before meals.”
Interviewee C
My anxiety often leads to unhealthy behaviours before I can manage it. Are there accessible tools like meditation exercises or stress-relief activities to help me understand and control
my emotions before meals?
As someone with Bulimia, I need an app that tracks my mood in real-time, offers coping skills, and connects me with others who understand my urges. Sharing experiences and receiving support could make a big difference.
“It’s hard to overcome binge eating alone.”
Interviewee D
User Interviews
What kind of issues would potential users face?
Interviews were conducted to identify the needs and pain points of women dealing with eating disorders.
I've always been obsessed with counting every calorie, increasing my anxiety. I need an app that helps focus more
on mindful eating rather than just calories, guiding me to
a healthier relationship with food without stress.
“I’m tired of counting calories, but I can’t stop.”
Interviewee A
“Am I dealing with an eating disorder? Where do I start?”
Interviewee B
Recently, my weight gain crushed my self-esteem, and I obsessively dieted, leading to both anorexia and Bulimia. Emotional eating confuses me as I lack knowledge about
what they are and how to correct these habits.
RESEARCH TAKEAWAYS
Consequently, Mindfull's features extend beyond simple symptom management to address the co-occurring mental health problems, necessitating an integrated therapeutic approach that comprehensively tackles both aspects.
Project Goal
Mindfull needs to offer a user-friendly app supporting emotional regulation, hydration, mindful exercise, and self-reflection. It provides tailored features and compassionate guidance to empower individuals on their journey to recovery,
promoting a balanced approach to health and well-being.
